Strengthening the link between cultural heritage and modern businesses

Bothnia Business Heritage

The Bothnia Business Heritage project aims to promote and highlight the Gulf of Bothnia and its cultural heritage, while strengthening the connection between the past, the present, and the future. This is done by launching the Bothnia Business Heritage Network, a transnational network for cultural heritage actors within industrial and maritime history. The network offers a forum for experience exchange, as well as training in product development and marketing, with the aim of connecting to today’s business life.

Throughout history, the Gulf of Bothnia has been an essential channel to the world, leading to a rich maritime and industrial cultural heritage, as well as to the active business life of today. Unfortunately, this cultural heritage is not often acknowledged, and therein lies unutilized potential. Businesses stand to benefit from a strong connection to this cultural heritage, which would provide them with added value and credibility in marketing, branding, and development. Cooperation on this theme between Finnish and Swedish partners strengthens both cultural heritage and business life, resulting in positive visibility for the region.

During the project, businesses’ needs and wishes in relation to their own cultural heritage will be explored. Bridges between cultural heritage actors and businesses will be created, benefitting both partners by strengthening the cultural heritage actors’ operations, as businesses become aware of their own roots. A workshop process will be developed, where cultural heritage actors learn how to create and offer services to meet the businesses’ needs. When the project ends, the Bothnia Business Heritage Network will remain, as well as a guide containing cooperative models for businesses and cultural heritage actors.
