Developing a forest-based fuel blending component

FOR-BLEND

The Interreg Aurora funded project FOR-BLEND creates cross-border knowledge networks enhancing the green transition towards a sustainable economy. The project aims to develop a feasible process for managing forest-based residue locally and producing a sustainable fuel blending component. The component is produced by pyrolysis and upgraded. Physical-chemical properties of the component are analyzed and advanced analytical methods for new lignocellulosic based fuel options are developed. The products potential as a fuel blending component for internal combustion engines will be evaluated. At the same time, the process to produce such a product will be integrated and the product and its supply chain will be evaluated by means of a Life Cycle Analysis and technoeconomic assessment. The project aims to enhance the possibility for decentralized energy production to support transition of local mobility infrastructure towards climate-neutrality along with green and sustainable economy.
