The Interreg Aurora funded project Oummu rââst raaj (in English: People cross the borders) overall objective is to strengthen the Skolt Saami language and culture environment. The project will establish a common language arena for Skolt Saami living in Norway and Finland.
The project will develope a sustainable operating model for the preservation, support, promotion and development of Skolt Saami language and culture environment. It will provide accessible and low-threshold cultural activities and learning opportunities on a regular basis.
The project activities will involve Skolt Saami people of all age groups, all genders, with different learning needs, both professional and individual, living in and outside the Skolt Saami region, providing nets of support for the entire language environment. The project aims to a shifting towards a positive attitude to Skolt Saami language and culture, and enabling language learning support and motivation at different levels. In addition, the project will increase visibility of Skolt Saami language and culture on a larger scale, inviting wider audiences to get introduced.
