Together we keep the salmon parasite out of northern waters

Atlantic salmon have no resistance to Gyrodactylus Salaris parasite. Therefore, the spread of this salmon parasite to the northern rivers would be fatal for salmon stocks that are already in trouble. Boats, canoes, and all fishing equipment and accessories brought to the water areas of Upper Lapland must be completely dry or disinfected before using them. Bicycling & Winter bicycling in the arctic

Partner search: Large part of mobility takes place in car travel which increase low health numbers and GHG emissions from transports, whereas almost 50% come from travels in private cars. Citizens and particularly parents have habituated taking children to school and other activities because of much care and not allowing them to ride their bicycles to school as they don’t find it safe. Updated Terms of reference for Interreg Aurora calls for project applications

The Interreg Aurora Monitoring Committee has met in Kiruna 22-23 May 2024. On the meeting agenda was a decision on the Terms of reference regarding the upcoming Interreg Aurora calls for project applications. After a review of the so far approved projects, the programme has identified some areas that will be prioritized in order to reach the overall programme objectives in accordance with the recommendations of the European Commission. Highlights from the EU Arctic Forum and Indigenous Peoples’ Dialogue 2024

The Interreg Northern Periphery and Arctic Programme participated in the EU Arctic Forum, Indigenous Peoples’ Dialogue and EU-Arctic Youth Dialogues, jointly organized by the European Commission and the European External Action Service, on 14-15 May in Brussels. The role of Interreg was highlighted and both Interreg NPA and Interreg Aurora projects were showcased on how they can support protecting of Arctic ecosystems, and address climate change impacts and adaptation, integrating local and indigenous knowledge into key decisions. Interreg Aurora consultation with stakeholders on the programme post 2027

The European Commission has invited all Interreg Programmes to run a consultation with their stakeholders to get input for future programme periods. This is your opportunity to give your input to the future of the Interreg Aurora programme. Your input, together with the input from the consultation of Citizens and from the interviews run during the autumn, will be compiled to a report submitted to the European Commission in the end of the year 2024. Congratulations to the winners of Innovation camp – Vilma, Sonja, Pauliina, Felicia and Ana!

Nearly 100 teachers and students from Northern Sweden and Finland worked together for three days on topics related to the green transition and societal change in Luleå (Sweden). Both teachers and students worked in mixed groups, using English as the common working language. The Innovation camp was organised by the Interreg Aurora funded project Aurora Entrepreneurialis.
