Northern forests provide services like timber, bilberries, cowberries, mushrooms and support the livelihood of the Sami people. Northern forests are also crucial for biodiversity conservation, carbon sequestration, and offering recreational spaces and habitats for various animals. Efficient forest ecosystems are key in combating climate change impacts, including flood protection and other environmental challenges. Remote sensing (RS) techniques, particularly through unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), are essential in identifying areas within northern forests that vary in their capacity to provide these ecosystem services (ESs). The future of northern forests depends on a multidisciplinary approach, strategic planning, innovation, and systemic cooperation among the Sami, landowners, academia, and other stakeholders. We seek academic and municipal partners who share this vision and are interested in networking, shaping, and co-creating a joint project for the Interreg Aurora call in March 2024.
